What is the best foam for seating?

Choosing the best foam for seating

With so many foams for so many uses it’s easy to get confused with what is the best foam for seating, should I use the same foam for back cushions? The best foam for my alfresco etc.. The list can go on.

Foam for Home have made selecting the best foam as easy as possible splitting in to 4 different selections to choose from. However Foam for Home also offer a wider range of foams designed for each individuals requirements. For example foam for a wheel chair or a foam for your dining chair may be quite different to what you may require for your lounge or your caravan.

So what do all the numbers mean on foam and how do you  know what the difference is between a low density foam and a high density foam.

Foam is measured with 2 numbers for example 30-130 & 16-130 may feel similar on the initial feel but the 30-130 is much better quality foam in comparison to the 16-130. This is because the 30-130 is a high density foam compared to the low density 16-130. The higher the first number the higher the density or the weight of the foam in this case the 30 is the kg per cubic metre put simply less air holes in the foam meaning this foam will retain its bounce much longer than the lighter 16 kg per cubic metre foam. The 130 is the softness basically how much pressure is applied to the foam for it sink, again the higher this number the firmer the foam will be, but remember not to get confused with this number as it has nothing to do with the overall quality of the foam.

Foam for Home would always recommend a high density for your lounge furniture and this being anything from 29 upwards which is our premium collection and anything from 130 upwards on the softness. If you are thinking of bench seats or window seats then a good recommendation would be a 29/200 as this is quite firm but ideal on a hard surface.
