Choosing the right foam
It sounds easy right? It is really. But when you begin to take a look at the different types of foams that are available online it can become mind boggling.
Foam for Home have been supplying furniture foams for over 25 years and we have made the whole ordering of foam a simpler process. There’s many different foams with different densities but really the vast majority of us are looking for something that’s either a soft cushioning a firm cushioning or something with a little bit of both.
Choosing the right seating foam for the purpose
The first thing to look at when selecting your foam cushion online is the density of the foam. At Foam for Home, we have the following densities 23, 31 & 36. These are from our standard range; however, we are not limited to these densities and if you require a specific foam density or type contact our team at info@thecoverstory.com.au where will be more than happy to assist and recommend from our vast range of foams. OK so what does the density mean? In simple teams the higher the number the denser the foam but remember the higher the density does not mean the firmer the seat foam will be. No it basically means the better the quality. The 23 is telling your there is 23 kilos of foam per cubic metre where as the 36…. Yes, you got it 36 kilo’s per cubic metre.
The hardness is the second number and means how the foam feels and is not a measure on the quality of the foam. In our 3 foams on our website we have 130 & 190 which is basically; our standard foam 23-130 our premium 30-190 and our Dunlop Enduro range which is 36-130 so the 23-130 and the 36-130 will have the same compression but the 36-130 will have much more reliance and will last the test of time! A lot of people make the mistake when looking for a firm foam think to just give it a squeeze and if it’s hard it must be good. So for arguments sake we use a low density foam cushion 24-160 you may think this feels good for the job but give this 12 months and this will not have the same feel if it’s being used as a load bearing seat cushion.
This explain when sometimes you may look at a low priced piece of furniture and on the day it may feel great, but down the track as we often see it just does not last the test of time and we are back to the shops to replace the seat foam.
